About Faraday Township
Faraday Township, one of the only still remaining unchanged municipalities
in North Hastings, is located on its extreme western border and forms the vital
highway link between Toronto and Ottawa and Belleville to the south.
While the Township lays claim to being the core of a rich uranium lode, its
last mine, Madawaska Mines Ltd., closed in 1982. The
chief claims to its popularity lay in possessing the treasurers of excellent
lumbering, mineral collecting, and noted summer resorts.
Along the shores of its vast network of lakes and rivers are situated the summer
homes of hundreds of permanent cottagers as well as summer visitors to the lake-land
alongside Highway 28.
Paudash Lake, an area once frequented by Indians and the Township's first residents,
forms the headwaters of the great Crowe River Conservation Authority. Near Bow
Lake, at the junction of Highway 28 and the Lower Faraday Road, is the Township's
Community Centre and adjacent to it is the well-equipped and fully manned volunteer
fire station.
The Township's population of 1,402 is well served by the many health care and
volunteer services throughout our Township and Bancroft.
